Final Idea

This is the image I was thinking of using for my final piece. I spoke to Alison and she suggested that I used Maya to build the phone, I-Pod bowel and spoon.

    Hi Charlotte,

It's very satisfying that you've been working on your drawing and perspective - I can only encourage you to keep on at this aspect of your 'creative method', as drawing will always be key to your development. Regarding your proposed ideas, I have to say that I'm not getting very much off the campsite idea - much more potent are the scenes you describe from your dreams - especially the shed idea; the garden shed is such an innocent 'everyday' object, but the fact that, for you as a child, it became the site of such anxiety is a near perfect example of the familiar becoming disturbing. Your description of your dream reminded me of the scene from ET - see below

I think the shed idea could work perfectly and it will give you the challenge of creating a proper-set in Maya plus lighting effects, plus painted foliage or similar. I think you should capitalise on the idea that the scene is being viewed by your childhood self - so consider the height and angle of the camera - the camera as child onlooker.

You haven't posted a clear statement of intent re. your essay, though it's clear you've been getting your head around the concept; your last essay wasn't great, and I'm really looking to you to improve your written assignment this time around; identify something very specific by which to demonstrate your understanding of the uncanny; don't be vague or generalised, be very focused and clear.

Please see the next 2 posts for some general advice re. the essay.
