Gerhard Richter

Another artist who has given me some inspiration is Gerhard Richter.

I like the way that no one will ever be able to know the person in the painting as they are turned away. You can only guess at what the woman is like and feels. I wanted to do something similar but instead of their head turned quite so far, you can see a vague outline of a face, such as part of the eye etc. This is because I wanted to make it as if the person in the picture wanted to give something of their identity away. But because they are unsure they are unwilling to give more of themselves away. I wanted people to get tempted by the brief glimpse they get and want to know the person more.
