Started making the latest piece of concept in Maya. Gosh I'm glad I've started using Maya again.
This is a render of the placing of the objects. I might make the sphere smaller just so it's not so close to the camera. Also I know the UV layout on the sphere isn't right to. I accidentally added the UV grid to both the plane behind it and the sphere at the same time.

Terminator 2
Watched Terminator 2 last night and, I agree I prefer the 2nd film to the first. However both films are great in their own ways. Rather like the twist halfway through. I did figure it out, but Tom refused to confirm it for me. I also found the ending a little sad.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Went to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert in London today. Went as part of an 18th birthday present for one of my friends. I've seen the film version which is extremely funny, however the show was amazing. The bright costumes and the songs capture the audience' attention and gets everyone singing along.

The Shining and The Terminator
After being told by Tom I was going to watch 'The Shining' it finally happened. I've watched it. Was a pretty good film, though I did find it a little creepy. Don't think I'd look at an empty hotel in the same way again.
Also watched Terminator as well. Thought it was pretty good, though I've been told that Terminator 2 is better so I'll be watching it to find out if it's true.

Rough Concepts 1
Now taking my rough thumbnails into Photoshop. I added the lighter orange coloured texture over the top of the sketch in the first image. The second I used my water coloured clouds which is my banner image and put the darker brown one over the top of those. I duplicated the clouds a couple of layers and then flipped them to make them more randomly spaced. They don't really have much definition at the moment, but I don't want my images to show a 'definite' object etc. I'm after an abstract look so that people can interpret what they wish to see rather than what I want to see. Though I may add more depth to the bottom image as it is I feel a little too abstract.
Like the image below doesn't really give very much information away, it does give a small hint into what cold be happening.

Texture Practise
Had my paints out the other day and to be honest I'm not sure where these were leading to.
When they were painted I only half had the summer project on my mind. Hence why they're fire colours such as red, yellow and orange etc. Other than that I think my inner child simply surfaced (it always does when painting for some reason). I'll be using them though for textures as I rather like how they've turned out.

American Werewolf
Watched American Werewolf the other day and well, I thought it was ok.
The effects for the era were ok, lots of fake blood etc. The dead guy who is stuck in limbo was pretty cool. Liked the way his body started to rot away. Other than that I wasn't entirely keen on the film. It would be one of those that I'd watch to say 'seen it' but other than that I wouldn't really watch it again unless someone wanted me to. I was also unimpressed by the ending; it felt rather rushed to me.

WIP Concept Art Another Update
Sketched Ideas
I saw this whilst browsing on Deviantart and I really love the way that 3 separate images come together to almost form one. I also like the way they tell a story whether they're together or separate.

I was thinking of maybe doing something similar. A series of images that as one tell a story but also separate tell one to.
A few thumbnails I sketched out as ideas. I have to confess I can't quite remember what the first one in the top left hand corner is supposed to be, but it'll come to me and I'll update on what it was when I do. The middle on the top row and top right hand corner are meant to be a pool of lava and then a ball of energy over the top. Phil said it sounded like a Phoenix or something else trying to break free so the last two images in the middle row are close up shots of a leg of some creature and then the eye. I was trying to go for a shot which showed that it could be an animal which has hatched but not give away which one.

WIP Concept Art Update

WIP Concept Art Practise
At first this piece was going to be waterfalls, as tom started it. However he wasn't sure where to go with it so I took over as he suggested. Instantly I knew that I wanted to turn the 'waterfalls' into lava to go with my Soundscape. So I changed the colour to reds and yellow. I also then added some extra streams and colour on top and changed the mountains in the background. I will be adding some shading onto them to make them look like a large wall of rock rather than mountains.
